From Buckets to New Bathrooms: How Your Support Transforms Survivors’ Lives

Every Holocaust survivor deserves to live with dignity, comfort, and safety in their own home. Many survivors face daily challenges in maintaining their living spaces, often struggling with deteriorating conditions that affect their quality of life. Through your incredible generosity, Tenufa Bakehila has been able to continue their mission of transforming these living spaces into proper homes

Your support has facilitated critical home repairs for seven Holocaust survivors, transforming their living conditions and bringing dignity back to their daily lives. Each repair, no matter how small or large, makes a profound difference in the quality of life for these survivors who have already endured so much.

The impact of your support has touched communities in both Ashkelon and Jerusalem, addressing urgent needs that many of these survivors couldn’t manage on their own. From fixing hazardous conditions to improving accessibility, your contributions have created safer, more comfortable homes for these precious members of our community.

Here’s how your donations have made a real difference:

In Ashkelon, two survivors received vital home improvements:

  • Joseph, born in 1939, who lives on a National Insurance allowance and faces cognitive and hearing challenges, had his cracked walls repaired, apartment painted, kitchen counter fixed, and roof sealed.
  • Sara, a Romanian-born survivor in her 80s, received comprehensive electrical upgrades including new light fixtures and sockets, along with a fresh coat of paint for her entire apartment.

In Jerusalem, five survivors benefited from crucial repairs:

  • Shimon, 97 years old and wheelchair-bound, can now move more freely thanks to a new wheelchair-accessible door. His apartment also received updated lighting and fresh paint.
  • Maya, a Moroccan-born survivor in her 80s who lives with her son, had her window frames and panes fixed and sealed, protecting her from the elements.
  • Eliezer, who struggles with mobility issues, no longer needs to use a bucket to flush his toilet – a new system has restored this basic dignity to his daily life.
  • Sam’s home is now more functional with repaired kitchen cabinets, drawers, and window systems.
  • Shira, at 95 years old, received a new steel entrance door, providing both security and peace of mind.

These improvements may seem simple, but they transform lives. Your generosity ensures that these survivors, who have already faced unimaginable hardships, can live their later years in comfort and dignity. Each repair represents not just a physical improvement, but a message that they are not forgotten.

Thank you for your continued support of this vital mission. Your donations don’t just fix homes – they rebuild lives and restore dignity to those who deserve it most.
