Caring for Israel’s lone soldiers, one week at a time

Lone soldiers are young men and women who leave everything behind—family, familiarity, and comfort—to serve in the IDF and defend Israel. Many come from abroad. Some have no relatives in the country at all. When they finally come off base, there is no home to return to, no stocked fridge, no one waiting to ask how they’re holding up.

That’s why support for lone soldiers matters so deeply.

Thanks to your generosity, we’re able to provide weekly Shabbat treats and healthy food to lone soldiers who are off base—usually groups of 10 to 20 soldiers each week. The soldiers themselves send lists of what they want and need, and those requests guide everything that’s purchased.

Sometimes it’s fruit and vegetables.
Sometimes it’s protein bars or cereal bars.
Sometimes it’s chips, snacks, or drinks to share with friends.
And sometimes it’s a late-night meal after an exhausting week.

These lists may look simple, but they tell a powerful story. They reflect young soldiers looking for comfort, familiarity, and a small sense of home.

With your help, every Thursday and Friday, Yehudis Schamroth—lovingly known as “The Mother of the Soldiers”—fills her car with Shabbat groceries, snacks, toiletries, and essentials for lone soldiers. She delivers them to the soldiers at Lev L’Chayal, Yeshivat Lev HaTorah, making sure each home is stocked before Shabbat begins.

Yehudis doesn’t buy in bulk or drop off generic supplies. She shops for the soldiers individually—choosing items based on their requests and preferences, whatever will bring them comfort and remind them that they matter. It’s personal. It’s thoughtful. And it makes a real difference.

For lone soldiers who give so much of themselves to Israel, these weekly deliveries offer more than food. They offer dignity, care, and the feeling that someone sees them and values their sacrifice.

To our donors: thank you. Your monthly support allows this care to continue week after week. It ensures that lone soldiers who have given up everything to protect Israel don’t feel alone when they step off base.

As long as lone soldiers continue to serve, this need remains.

With your continued support, we can keep showing up for them—bringing warmth, nourishment, and a reminder that they are deeply appreciated.
