Turning support into safety for Holocaust survivors

The past few years in Israel have been overwhelming. War, rockets, constant stress, and long periods of uncertainty have hit everyone hard, but Holocaust survivors and the elderly have carried an especially heavy burden. For them, home must be the one place that feels safe.

Unfortunately, many survivors were living in apartments that were anything but. Fires left homes damaged and unsafe. Severe mold spread across walls. Kitchens fell apart. Lighting failed. Bathrooms were inaccessible. These were not inconveniences. They were daily dangers.

With your support, we partnered with Tenufa Bakehila to carry out urgent, life-improving repairs for Holocaust survivors across Bat Yam, Sderot, Netivot, Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, and Shlomi, restoring safety and dignity where it was urgently needed.

Here are just some of the changes your support made possible:

In Bat Yam, Moshe’s home was restored after a fire, with walls cleaned, repaired, and repainted, lights installed, and doors fixed. Lev’s apartment underwent severe mold treatment, making it safe to breathe again. Shlomo received a completely new kitchen and new flooring throughout his home, replacing a space that had become unusable. Rena, Dvora, and Svetlana all had walls repaired and apartments repainted, with improved lighting that made daily movement safer.

In Shlomi, Margarete’s home received wall repairs, new plumbing, a replaced sink, and proper lighting. In Beit Shemesh, Tzion’s apartment was repainted and fitted with new LED lighting. In Sderot, Yevgenya and Simon’s apartments were repaired and repainted, with lighting installed and, in one case, a heater added to the shower to make bathing safe during colder months.

In Netivot, Eli and Aliza’s home received wall repairs, electrical fixes, and plumbing work. In Jerusalem, Nora’s bathroom was rebuilt with grab bars and a safer shower, while Rika’s home received new LED lighting after unsafe fixtures were removed.

These were not upgrades. They were necessities. They allowed survivors to move safely in their homes, cook again, bathe without fear, and live with a sense of stability during a time when Israel has faced constant upheaval.

There are still Holocaust survivors and elderly Israelis living in unsafe conditions. Your continued support makes it possible to keep this work going, reaching more people who deserve safety, dignity, and peace in their own homes.

Thank you for standing with them and for making this impact possible.
