How One Meal Can Change a Life

For more than two decades, a small soup kitchen tucked away in one of Jerusalem’s poorest neighborhoods has been quietly changing lives. Founded on the belief that no one should go hungry, it has become a beacon of hope for struggling families, Holocaust survivors, and the elderly.

“We’ve been doing this for 20 years,” the founder shared. “Sadly, the demand is increasing. Every month, more families ask for help, and it’s a challenge to meet that demand.”

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of people like you, this kitchen can continue serving those who have nowhere else to turn — providing hot meals, comfort, and dignity every single day.

Honoring the Life of Shoshana Spitzer ז״ל

Among those blessed by the Jerusalem soup kitchen’s work was the late Shoshana Spitzer, a 103-year-old Holocaust survivor who endured the horrors of Auschwitz and survived the experiments of Dr. Mengele — a miracle of faith and resilience.

Despite all she experienced, Shoshana was known for her broad smile, warm words, and open heart. In her final years, she received a hot meal every day from this very soup kitchen — a simple kindness that made a profound difference.

“This meal allowed her to stay at home almost until her last day — with dignity, silence, and love. And there is no doubt it contributed to her longevity.”

By supporting this kitchen, you’ve helped give Shoshana what every survivor deserves — comfort, dignity, and peace in her final years.

Shoshana passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a legacy of faith, courage, and light.
May her memory be a blessing, and may her story remind us that every meal given, every person fed, and every act of compassion truly matters.

Continuing Her Legacy: Feeding Israel’s Families

Since October 7, 2023, the need in Israel has grown dramatically. With so many displaced families and soldiers on the front lines, hunger has become a quiet crisis.
The Kiryat Yovel soup kitchen continues to respond — preparing and distributing over meals each month for families, elderly residents, and those struggling to rebuild their lives.

“We now serve soldiers’ families who are left behind while their loved ones are on the front lines in Gaza,” the founder explained. “It’s hard for them to keep their homes running, so we provide them with daily meals.”

Just before Rosh Hashanah, the kitchen began a major holiday food drive — ensuring that 1,000 families could celebrate the New Year with full refrigerators and warm hearts.

“התחלנו היום את החלוקה לנזקקים, נמלא את המקרר לראש השנה לאלף משפחות”
(“Today we began distributing to those in need — we will fill the refrigerators of 1,000 families for Rosh Hashanah.”)

Helping Israel’s Children Start the Year with Dignity

This year, your generosity also helped the kitchen reach beyond food — supporting children from needy families as they began the new school year.

“On the occasion of the return to school, we distributed bags and school supplies for children from needy families,” the founder shared.

For many of these children, the start of school brings anxiety — not about classes or tests, but about showing up without the basic supplies that other students have.
Your support gave them new bags, notebooks, and the confidence to begin the year with pride.

Your generosity not only fills plates — it fills lives with hope. Because of you, families, soldiers’ loved ones, and even Israel’s oldest Holocaust survivors are cared for with dignity and love.

If you’d like to continue this life-changing work, please consider standing with Israel’s hungry once again.
Together, we can keep every fridge full, every child equipped, and every heart warm.
