Islamic Terrorists Reject the Hebrew Bible
On Saturday Morning, October 7, as Israel celebrated the final day of the Feast of Tabernacles, Hamas terrorists launched a barbaric surprise attack on Israel’s southern towns and cities, murdering over 1,400 innocent men, women and children in their homes and synagogues and taking over 200 hostages, including infants and Holocaust survivors. Hamas terrorists brutally raped and murdered Jewish women, executed entire families, and burned and beheaded 40 Jewish babies.
Shockingly, large crowds of pro-Hamas supporters have violently protested in cities and university campuses throughout the United States, tearing down posters with pictures of Israeli hostages and threatening Jews across America.
At the root of this sickening evil is Hamas’ rejection of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Bible. Hamas and other Islamic terrorists seek a new Islamic world order – and will murder both Jews and Christians to achieve their goal.
The Hebrew Bible is the Foundation of American Democracy
More than any book of philosophy, the Bible was the foundation for the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The Puritans, who founded the 13 Colonies, believed that they were reliving the story of the Exodus. They considered Britain, the Atlantic Ocean and America to be modern-day Egypt, Red Sea and the Promised Land.
The founders turned to the Hebrew Bible for inspiration as they developed the Constitution. The twelve tribes of Israel, each governed separately but unified under the leadership of Moses, Aaron and the 70 elders, was a model for the Federalism and separation of powers that define the American republic.
John Adams, our second president, recognized America’s debt to the Hebrew Bible:
“I will insist that the Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation… If I were an atheist, who believe… that all is ordered by chance, I should believe that chance had ordered the Jews to preserve and propagate to all mankind the doctrine of a supreme, intelligent, wise, almighty sovereign of the universe, which I believe to be the great essential principle of all morality, and consequently of all civilization.”

United by their common belief in the Hebrew Bible, American Christians and Jews believed that God created men to be free, that religious freedom is a divine right, that morality and self restraint are essential to a healthy democracy and that a belief in God is essential to national unity.
The American Political Class has Forgotten its Religious Roots
Tragically, as secular progressives have increasingly come to dominate our culture, many of our political leaders no longer recognize the Bible as the foundation of our democracy.
In the words of Senator Josh Hawley:
“And their real target in all of this, I submit to you, is the inheritance of the Bible. What they [secular progressives] particularly dislike about America is our dependence on biblical teaching and tradition. [But] without the Bible, there is no modernity. Without the Bible, there is no America.”
Without the Bible, Americans Support Israel’s Enemies
As America and its leadership have become increasingly ignorant of the Bible, our culture has experienced severe moral decline, seeing an increase in crime, family breakdown, and drug use. Tragically, many young people who lack Biblical education have fallen victim to radical woke ideology and now support Hamas and its genocidal goals.
At the same time, the culture’s neglect of the Hebrew Bible and religious values has caused too many senators and congressmen to turn their backs on Israel.
Representative Pramila Jayapal, who heads a large group of progressive Democrats in Congress, recently said: “As somebody who’s been in the streets and participated in a lot of demonstrations, I want you to know that we have been fighting to make it clear that Israel is a racist state…”
In 2016, 53% of Democrats said they sympathized more with the Israelis, and 23% with the Palestinians. But in 2023, just 38% of Democrats supported Israelis while 49% said they sympathized more with Palestinians.
Jayapal’s ignorance of the Bible and the State of Israel’s biblical right to the holy land is sadly common among today’s leadership class in Washington D.C. Without a strong Biblical foundation, America’s leaders will almost certainly turn away from Israel in the years ahead.

Though some congressmen and senators actively fight against the Bible and its teachings, many are simply ignorant of God’s word and do not realize that America can only thrive if it lives by its teachings.

Israel is fighting for its life. Now more than ever, our leaders must understand the true reason the United States must have Israel’s back. Those who stand with Israel stand with God and the Bible.
